About the course

Literature is a dynamic force of change: it shapes people and events and creates vivid, enduring and deeply moving art. Combine this with the opportunity to learn another language – and you’ll graduate with high-level language and intercultural abilities that will open up a variety of careers. You can choose to study any language from Chinese, French, German, Italian or Spanish. Hull offers excellent language learning facilities, with a dedicated space for languages students. Our dedicated team of advisors offer one-to-one support and a partnership scheme that gives you the chance to practice your chosen language with native speakers.

Our staff are experts in their field, and their internationally excellent research underpins the modules you’ll study. Staff have expertise in a range of literatures from the medieval to the 21st century, across English and American writers of novels, poetry, drama and short fiction. Writing and writers are central to Hull’s status as UK City of Culture 2017. Our English programmes are providing students with exciting opportunities to be part of the literary and creative scene at the University and beyond.
