Students who pass the foundation year can continue with the BA Business Management course or transfer to any of the BA or BSc awards within the programme cluster or to related clusters (Marketing, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Accounting, Financial Management, Business Economics, International Business).

BA (Hons) with a Year Abroad

Spend a year studying at one of our partner institutions in Europe, Asia, North America or Australia. This is an outstanding opportunity to broaden your horizons in a different culture and environment, learn new skills and develop valuable international contacts while continuing your studies.

BA (Hons) with an Industrial Placement

Gain valuable skills, put theory into practice and discover more about what motivates you – all while earning a wage. Spend a year working in industry, getting invaluable experience, creating potential contacts and developing your employability. Our professional experience programme provides the opportunity to work with companies like IBM, Boots, BP, Microsoft UK, PricewaterhouseCoopers and the Walt Disney Company.

About the course

The business management element of this programme has been designed to help you develop a broad skill-set that will enable you to deal with the complexity and diversity of the modern business world. Combining this with a focus on accounting means you'll gain the skills to analyse facts and figures giving you a real edge in the jobs market. Study in state-of-the-art facilities under leading experts who bring theory to life with exciting case studies, live projects and guest speakers. Our professional accreditations reflect our relevance to the real world of business, with fresh accreditation for this updated course currently being sought from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

You can opt to spend a year of your programme in work, gaining invaluable experience and creating contacts. Or you could spend a year studying abroad with one of our partners across Europe, Asia, North America or Australia, giving your degree an international flavour. There are also opportunities to take part in international summer schools including top destinations such as Copenhagen Business School and Hong Kong University.

Entry requirements

Foundation Year entry requirements:

  • The foundation year is designed for applicants whose qualifications and experience do not allow direct entry to the undergraduate degree.
  • We expect applicants to demonstrate an experience of a related subject and an aptitude for academic work which may be determined by an essay and/or interview alongside the application.
  • For applicants with A levels in subjects other than those key to the degree, we will usually require a minimum of 80 points from Level 3 qualifications.

International students

(language requirements)

If you require a Tier 4 student visa to study or if your first language is not English you will be required to provide acceptable evidence of your English language proficiency level.

This course requires IELTS 6.0 overall, with no less than 5.5 in each skill. For other English language proficiency qualifications acceptable by this University, please click here.
