Entry requirements

Minimum

The Hull MBA is designed for students with a minimum of 3 year's appropriate work experience.

Ideally, you will also have a good degree awarded by a UK university or comparable overseas institution, or an equivalent professional qualification.

Applicants with more than five years of senior level post graduation work experience may be admitted with a third class pass degree.

Applicants without a degree or equivalent professional qualification

Applicants who do not have a degree or equivalent professional qualification but meet the other eligibility criteria may submit a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate that they can benefit from, contribute to and succeed on the MBA programme.

The applicant should have completed approximately eight years full-time appropriate work experience.

A portfolio may include, for example, details of significant work projects carried out, information about strategic analyses undertaken (for example, budgets and strategic forecasts), company reports, or other contributions to policy formulation and implementation. The portfolio might also include information about other courses taken, and training and development programmes attended.

The aim is to demonstrate that the applicant’s business knowledge and experience are sufficient to allow them to fulfil the academic requirements of the Hull MBA.

Interview
As the final stage of the application process, applicants that have satisfied all other conditions will be interviewed by Business School staff, either by telephone or in person. The interview also provides an opportunity for the applicant to ask questions about particular aspects of the MBA, and to receive further information about the programme of study.

Study information

The Hull MBA prepares you for senior leadership roles in today's complex world.

We have devised the Hull MBA to ensure your learning is rooted in theory and yet focused on practice and practical applications. To facilitate this, the Hull MBA concentrates on five 'big ideas'.

• Connected thinking

Modern business organisations require solid accounting, creative marketing and reliable logistics. Customers expect that the various elements will be drawn together to provide an overall product or service.

• Responsible leadership

Throughout the MBA, you will consider the complex nature of managerial work and will develop and demonstrate leadership competencies

• Advocacy

Management hinges on the art of persuasion. Competence in business is founded on functional forms of business knowledge such as accounting, finance and human resource management – yet managerial success is rooted in a broader set of skills and attributes.

• Leadership styles

The Hull MBA acknowledges the aspiration of universal agreement yet recognises difference, dissent and conflict as potentially powerful forces for development and change.

• Problem identification

The Hull MBA encourages a focus on the problem identification rather than the pursuit of solutions.
