About the course
Research is a necessary foundation for evidence-based practice, decision making and strategic development. The MRes in Health Studies aims to develop your knowledge and skills in relation to the conduct of research in health and social care settings. The core of the programme is the final dissertation module, where you’ll complete an advanced, evidence-based project in line with your professional priorities and interests.
You'll gain a range of practical and professional skills to enable you to contribute more effectively to the delivery of health and social care. And you’ll develop transferable skills to give you make you stand out in the job market. The flexible nature of this programme enables you to fit your studies around other work and life commitments.

Applicants from the local area accessing programmes and individual modules may be eligible for funding via the contract with the Yorkshire and the Humber Local Education and Training Board (YHLETB). Entry is open to anyone working in a health or social care environment.
Candidates will normally be expected to hold at least a Bachelors degree with a classification of at least 2:2. Where this requirement is not met alternative professional qualifications may be considered.
Additionally, candidates should demonstrate evidence of recent successful study at Level 6 in the five years prior to enrolment.
Candidates are expected to be engaged in a health professional or equivalent role (either paid or voluntary) as some modules require access to, and reflection on, professional practice.
Students who have fulfilled the learning objectives of specific modules through prior learning can apply for exemptions under the APEL regulations.
If you require a Tier 4 student visa to study or if your first language is not English you will be required to provide acceptable evidence of your English language proficiency level.
This course requires IELTS 6.0 overall, with 5.5 in each skill.
