What's the difference between an open day and an applicant experience day

Although there are some similarities between open days and applicant experience days, we do encourage you to come to an applicant experience day, even if you’ve already attended an open day.

An applicant experience day is an opportunity to find out in more detail, information about your course, modules and the department, as well as meet the lecturers, current students, and other applicants.

Choosing the right university for you is a huge decision – and an applicant experience day will give you another chance to see the campus, accommodation and the city, to make sure you’re going to be happy studying and living here.

I can't make the open day/applicant day! Can I visit on a different day
Yes. We run monthly campus tours to give you a feel for what life is like at Hull. Find out more and register your place on a campus tour here.
Do I need to book to attend the open day
We recommend that you register online. A programme for the day will be posted to you about a week before the event. But don’t panic if you’ve not had chance to book, feel free to turn up on the day and register at the arrival point.
What time does the open day/applicant experience day start and end

Open days

The day runs between 9am and 4pm.

Check out the programme for details and times of any talks and tours you’re interested in.

Applicant days

The day runs between 9am and 4pm.

General university activities take place between 9.00am and 1.00pm. However, you will spend the whole afternoon with your department where you will be able to explore the subject and facilities in more detail. Departmental programmes begin at different times so please check the individual programme you have been sent by email.

When will I receive my programme

Open days and applicant experience days

Around 2 weeks before the event you will receive a reminder email with a link to download a PDF copy of the programme. If you’ve provided us with your address, the programme will be posted to you about a week before the event. If you don’t receive your programme in time, don’t worry, there will be plenty available on the day.

What do I need to bring with me

Open days and applicant experience days

Before the event, you will receive an email containing a QR code for us to scan at the arrival point. Please bring this with you. We can scan it from your phone or from a printed copy of the email.

You might want to bring a notepad to write down any important information you find out on the day. We’d also recommend wearing comfy shoes for walking around the campus and warm clothing in bad weather.

Check the details on your invitation email, it will specify whether there is anything you need to bring, e.g. a portfolio of work.

Can I bring family or friends

Yes. We recommend you bring family or a friend to help you take in all of the information on the day, as well as ask any questions you may not have thought of asking.

Due to limited space on applicant experience days, we advise bringing a maximum of 2 guests.
